There's no patching a wrong hole invisibly in random-coursed stone, and lime-mortared walls can spall or crack if drilled carelessly or in the wrong spot. Every penetration on a stone building gets planned before a bit touches the wall: located in mortar joints or concealed positions wherever possible, sized to the cable and nothing more, and sealed against weather without smearing modern sealant across old masonry.

Once cut, period cedar and lime plaster can be repaired only in the sense that a scar repairs — the original surface is gone, and every subsequent owner inherits the loss.
Our rule is that original joinery is not a mounting surface of convenience.
